I just noticed that your vitara calipers are different to mine, guess there's 2 types like on SJs?
Surely for a jago body swap you won't actually need to take it for an inspection? With blitz buggy body swaps etc all you need to do is get the body type changed on the log book because there's more than enough parts kept from the original vehicle with the 8 point sustem to keep its identity and the jago shell doesn't have it's on identity (Vin) as its not a monoqoque body. The only reason Jago's normally need to go for an IVA (SVA when they were built) was because they have their own chassis.

Ollie - the body is mostly crap held together by rust, paint and prayers. Also, I may have to cut the floorpan out. Can't promise anything of value will be left. And the rear door has been promised to someone else.
Scottie - not going for an IVA test, I was taking about the 8 point system inspection. VOSA won't inspect a vehicle without seeing a valid and current MOT certificate, and an MOT station won't test a vehicle that doesn't match the VOSA computer records. Which VOSA won't update until an 8 point system inspection has been done.
And getting a car through an IVA test (my only option if the vehicle doesn't have an MOT) is not viable for me.
So the plan is to get an MOT, then swap the body and get a VOSA inspection before the MOT runs out.

Sorry Anton what I was saying is chances are you won't even need vosa to look at it at all, just send the V5 off for a change of body type.
The MOT station shpuldnt care about it having a fibreglass body fitted as it does not have its own vin like a monocoque body would if say fitting a mini body.

I see what you're saying, Scottie, but an MOT station refused to MOT a mini bodied 410, and he had to have it inspected before his MOT ran out to get them to change the V5.
So it may be possible to send off the V5 and get it changed, but it's not *always* that straightforward. I know some Jago owners who've managed that, the V5 said "Ford Escort" and they had it changed to "Jago Geep", but other owners of Jago's with Ford V5's have been told to IVA it or scrap it.
Technically the rules say that you HAVE to have it inspected. Knowing my luck, I'll send off my V5 and get some stick-in-the-mud who decides I need to have it 8 point inspected or IVA'd. I just want to be in a position, should that happen, to be able to take the car to the inspection office (with a copy of the rules in my pocket in the very likely event I get a jerk try to tell me I've not got 8 points) and fingers crossed, drive away with a car officially registered as a "Jago Geep" or whatever.
Oh, and yes - I think Vits do have more than one type of caliper - a Lucas/Girling and a Tokico (I have TOkico, you probably have Lucas/Girling). I know Grand Vits definitely have different calipers to Vits:

Today I adjusted my handbrake (should work now, but I can't really tell until the rear brake disc conversion is done) and worked on my rear brake disc conversion.
Snag.
The caliper mount I stole from a spare 413 front axle was too big!
The bolt holes at the top are the right distance apart, but they're a few mm to high. The hole in the middle is also too big, the bolt holes at the bottom aren't the right spacing...
What's going on???

You need to drill new holes. Can be a bit tricky as the new holes end up very close to the originals.

The reason that mini had a problem was because the mini has a monoqoque body, and doesn't have a separate chassis like the SJ does so the identity of the car I.e. the VIN is for the body. I've read about the vehicle you are on about and the MOT tester probably got funny about the fact he was supposed to be MOTing a car with two vin numbers and two different identity's.
All properly done Jago's should have had an SVA test and be on a Q plate like our old one because they are a kit car that has its own chassis and just uses donor parts from the ford, its not "based" on a ford chassis therefore it is not a ford and that is the reason Vosa would have told whoever was trying to get the V5 changed that it needs an IVA. Technically it should have had one when it was first built as all kit cars need an IVA, what you are building technically isn't a kit car though, it's just a kit car body on an SJ chassis.
The thing is with a suzuki SJ the identity is in the chassis and keeping all the other Sj parts will have well over 8 points. So technically you can do whatever you want with the body and technically a jago body is the same style so you wouldn't need to get the body type changed either. The identity will still be a suzuki SJ so there isn't really much point trying to get the V5 to say its a jago geep as that's when vosa will start to pay more attention to it and at te end of the day all it is is a fibreglass body.
If it was me I'd just fit the body, put it in for an MOT and drive it. I just think you are worrying more than you should be as this is completely different to fitting a mini body or any other monocoque body.

Hmmm... You could have a point there, Scottie.
Most of the things I need to do to the SJ to get it through an MOT need doing regardless of whether or not I Jago body it, so I'll keep cracking on towards the MOT.
