I couldn't find a checklist of bits to do an SU swap - it may be useful if doing one the first time.
Just about to do an SU swap on my 1.3 (currently running a troublesome Aisin). I did my Sami a while ago and learned from that to have every single bit to hand and ready. Got almost everything I need now and there is some work to do before fitting.
Here's the list, may be a bit OTT but there's big money in the carb and manifold alone so cutting corners on the small bits is not worth it to me:
- one known good SU44 with red spring and BDL needle
- one modified inlet manifold (Rockwatt)
- inlet gasket
- new thermostat (there are 2 different seats and the stat comes with the adapter rubber seal, plus why not)
- choke cable and nipple bolt
- throttle cable parts - SJ std one for the 90 degree guide, and a bike cable (I think - will look more closely once I have the new carb)
- Ali tube and plate (57mm thick-wall tube, 6mm plate, fabricate air inlet from filter)
- K&N filter 70mm
- 70mm hose
- J-clips, various but quite a few small (12-18mm approx).
- breather filter
- inline fuel filter (optional, nice to see the carb is getting some)
- 6mm and 8mm fuel line also used for vac advance, and clear 6mm for overflow to atmos
- sheet steel to fabricate throttle (and maybe choke) cable-mount brackets
- gasket material (carb intake side)
- offcut to make bracket to mount K&N near wing
- workshop odds and sods - I recall an M8 or two to blank a water line up to old Aisin, gasket sealer etc.
Looking forward to some decent cold starts and a bit more than 3bhp when pulling away cold... that'd be nice.
I think that might be it, prob missed some small thing - but this time I intend to be well prepared before starting
