It's a sign !!!

Jordi.... Interesting. I'll have to get the dimensions of the 2, cos now they're cheaper with only a few $ in it.... it kind of makes sense.

I'd whip the stat out and see if that helps with the cooling.

If it does , i could have a look in the book at work for you and see if there's a suitable replacement that opens up at a lower temp, thus dropping the heat earlier.

Good idea mate I'll take it out now. I remember when I first got her she ran cold and the heater was non existent...no thermostat!

That worked! Stat out, new sealant and a top up in the rad and running perfectly. I might just leave it as is until winter.

Good that it's dropped the temp. It's a lot of engine in a small engine bay so with the current heatwave it's probably struggling.

Has the running/spluttering issue improved?

May have a browse in the intermotor book and see if a colder temp thermostat that would fit can be found.

Cooler temp stats was quite popular in old Skodas due to them running high temps. Rear engines ones the head gasket is viewed as a service item.

Currently running a ford Granada fan switch that kicks in 10 degrees earlier in mother Andyrews skoda Felicia. It does short journeys so in the winter the fan never kicked in. Then she got stuck in airport traffic and it boiled over due to the rad fan being seized due to lack of use. I fitted a cooler switch that kicks the fan on more often to keep it cooler and to keep the fan free, but with the recent heat it's on a lot and with a tired alternator and short journeys the fan running on after the engines switched off drains the battery! Ahhh!

So a relay needs to go in to prevent it running when the ignition is off, because due to the location of the fan to the switch it pings the fan on after you park the car up but as the coolant is no longer moving so it's running for 2-3mins.

Running perfectly Andy cheers for the tip. Yes if you can find a different stat I'll get one. Thankfully today is a LOT cooler!
