winch and battery

Post by kgilmore » Wed Aug 26, 2009 8:39 pm

If i have a 4kw winch powered by a 590 amp battery, with 72 ah how long will i get, i cant seem to work it out using the maths. It keeps coming up with 0 hours and 0 minutes, but surely a 590 amp battery would power a winch?
Cheers.

tbh its not really the sort of thing you could work out accuratly in a real life situation as the drain on the battery would depend on how hard the winch is working i.e. How deep the mud is, angle of the pull, weight of the vehicle being pulled even how many wraps of cable are on the drum etc. 590 amps should be plenty powerful enough to run a winch for a decent amount of time though and depending how its wired you can always keep the engine running while its in use.

hello mate,, have a look at this web site,, http://www.superwinch.com/4x4_Winch.html
but like scottie said, it depends on useage,, im going run run a split charger with a 110 amp separate battery, and propaply a bigger/different altanator.
