Hi guys!
I can buy a second hand G13B engine and gearbox to replace the weary G13A currently in my SJ413 (1989). Is this an easy 'conversion'? Has anyone done this?

Re: G13B engine into SJ413 body
im currently doing this, it is doable but they are hard engines to find now. the 13b was never sold in a car with a rwd gearbox so use the samurai gearbox, wire in MPI, make an exhaust fit, recreate the distributor in such a way that it doesn't foul the firewall, possibly relocate the brake servo? (havnt got to that bit yet) and probably lots of other little fiddly bits. its supposed to be an awesome engine for road use though, very fast very revvy. it depends what you want really. a 1.6 8v is an easy straight swap.

Thanks for the info - had sooo hoped it would be a 'plug and play' type of conversion....
Will do some more research.

Re: G13B engine into SJ413 body
I think the easiest upgrade is a G16 8v engine with an adapter plate, it's what most people do.
I believe that some people go for a G13b head on a G16b to get the torque of the 1.6 and some of the racy revvy pep of the GTI engine, although I think (from what I've read) you may lose some of the up top HP if you do.
What's the conversion for? I mean, what's your aim with the vehicle? People have swapped G13b's into offroad SJ's and said they didn't find it worthwhile as it doesn't have any more torque. Others loved it because it wasn't an offroader they were building.

1985 SJ413VX (SJ50V) with SPOA, rear disc brakes, 31x10.5R15 Kaiman Malatesta tyres, an MOT and a lot left to do!

Re: G13B engine into SJ413 body
I've just put one in mine. I bought the car with it in years ago and the car went amazingly well. I know they are not the best for torque but I love a revy little engine. I had thought one day to build it into a 1.6 or supercharge it or both??? Will see how it goes soon. I had to make an angle drive adaptor for distributor, modify my brake servo, modify the thermostat housing pipe, change a few water pipes and fit a fuel pump. A 16v 1.6 vitara exhaust manifold fits with a little modification and I have a spear one if you decide to do it. It wasn't to bad a job I found for nearly double the power but I have yet to test it properly!
