Mornin' and immobiliser woes!

Post by Metalneck » Fri Oct 21, 2016 12:42 pm

Hi,

New to this forum but have lurked and occasionally posted on another Suzuki forum!

I have a 2000 GV 2.0TD with the RF Mazda Engine and to be honest I've haven't needed to post much as it has been 100% reliable...until yesterday!

Looks like my old reliable GV has developed the dreaded immobiliser issue.
So...
Firstly, does anyone know is Rhinoman is still doing the ECU/Immobiliser/key reset? I've seen him all over the place and seen his website. Sent an email & message but early days yet.

Secondly....if not, does anyone have an working set of ECU/Immobiliser, barrel set & key(s) for an RF TD engined model?

About me. Well middle aged, married, tweenager, play guitar, bass and more...and really do have a metal neck...well a titanium plate & some bolts.
I used to be into Martial Arts & have traveled extensively. Unfortunately due to chronic illness & a train-wreck of a spine life's not what it used to be but what can you do.
I work for the NHS and am now desk-bound, however my dad is a retired mechanic so I grew up in a garage......

That's about it regarding introductions...and if anyone can answer my earlier questions I'd be eternally grateful as I really rely on my vehicle.

Cheers

Martin

:welcome:

Try this to get your GV started..

1) fully charge the battery "DO THIS OFF THE CAR"
2) refit the battery "BUT DO NOT CONNECT IT"
3) turn "ON" the ignition
4) connect the battery, "EARTH FIRST LIVE SECOND " this should reset the ECU

'Borrowed' :D from here: http://suzuki4u.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9431

Or maybe you need a new battery, how old is it?

Great. I will give that a try.

I took the battery off and put on a trickle charge this morning.

Cheers for that.

Quite a common fault I'm afraid. I believe Rhinoman can bypass the immobilizer side but does require work on the ecu or he can rematch the units. Hopefully he will come along shortly, with advice on the best way forward.
Loads of people have asked this question on "Difflock".

Yeah, have seen him all over the place on various forums but I think he's not around anymore
?

Found a reasonably cheap matched ECU/Immo/barrel & key on ebay so I just bought them!
If that doesn't work I can grab a low mileage 2004...2005 with the Peugeot engine which would be almost as cheap as a repair. Plenty around!

I do like the old GVs and I'm way more familiar with the Peugeot engines having had a few 406s in my time.

Probably just busy? his website and the Suzuki ECU/Immobilser repairs page is still up, ready for business.

Yep, noticed that the website was still up.

Ordered the parts regardless, as I'm currently unable to walk far & awaiting back surgery...hence no vehicle, no getting to work! Can just about manage to change the parts in my current state.

If it doesn't work, I can't really wait or throw money at it so it's bank loan and fresh vehicle time.

On the plus side I have an almost new set of M&S tires to swap over...

Fingers crossed changing ECU, Immo etc. will do the trick.

My Apologies, for some reason my forwarder bounced your email. The ECUs for the RF engine Mazdas have an unusual memory chip for which there is no data so I'm unable to re-programme those, hopefully swapping out the ECU set will have solved your issues.

Cheers for getting back to me. Thought you'd disappeared!

Yep, switched ECU, IMMO & Key etc. Started up first time.

Until today. I have exactly the same fault again!! Grrrr.

Anyone out there got an ECU,IMMO, Key & key coil going cheap...utterly skint after Christmas and 3 buses to work in the meantime???
