Sj steering lock issue SOLVED vitara steering box and sj pitman arm WANTED

Post by d_r_1989 » Sat Jan 12, 2019 6:44 pm

Having a few issues since iv got rid of the z bar and lowered my new sj a little bit, turning to the right (2 revolutions of steering wheel) my drivers wheel catches the leaf spring, not a ideal but thats not the problem. 2 turns to the left and the passenger wheel is 2inches away from leaf spring, it turns right considerably better. Driving In a straight line the steering wheel is just off centre towards the right (not by alot)
It has what looks to be a vitara power steering box.
Iv only driven it a handful of times but with the z bar i thought both wheels touched but cant be sure.
Anyone else had an issue like this?

Re: Sj steering lock, one way more than the other

Ok so i think iv figured out the issue. Im pretty sure the pitman arm has been put on the wrong spline. So im getting the full amount of turns but not the right throw on the steering arm. Iv also noticed the steering box has play vertically and is the cause of the intermittent heavy steering.
So does anyone have a vitara power steering box for sale?

I can't help with a replacement box but with pullers its not hard to remove the pitman arm and move it a few splines, I had to do that with the last one I fitted.

Iv ordered a jimny one as the bit the pitman arm attaches to had play in it. Atleast i know it will be done right that way too
