help please

i know this is a little long in coming
traveling back to france a few weeks ago i get into france 20 mins off the boat and the engine dies on me i call for brakedown rescue and they tell me that the fuel pump is gone so 24 hrs latter i return home on the back of a lorry (pictures to follow soon)
so befor i spend a lot of time/money any thoughts or suggestions on what could be wrong

Well its a mechanical pump so once its gone it needs replacing. Have you checked it yourself? Undo the carb fuel in pipe and turn the engine over to see if it squirts fuel?
Try that and report back with your findings

Fuel pumps aren't expensive to replace and are easy to do! I say if there is any doubt about it, replace it

Yeah head to a motor factors and get a new one its the sort of thing that I wouldn't bother with second hand

just opened up the fuel pump is the bottom half ment to be full of oil ?
any idea on a part number for the pump

Yeah there is oil in the bottom to lube the mechanism. There should be a lever tgat gets pushed by a rod that goes into the head.

Check there is fuel getting to the pump. It wont be the first time someone has put an inline fuel filter in and thats whats blocked. Worth checking fuel is getting to the pump before blaming pump

That's a good call that, they do usually cause a bit of stuttering before restricting all the flow but its worth checking.
