Is it possible to change the oil seal on the differential pinion (the input shaft) without removing the entire differential assembly?
mine's sprung a leak and ive got to go away on the weekend, a long drive.

anybody changed the oil seal?

Yea it can be done, remove the prop, and on the flange there is a 27mm (I think) nut undo it take the flange off and the oil seal should be just behind it prize it out, then put abit of gear oil round the outside of the new one and gently tap it into place, replace the flange and nut.

you are supposed to have that 27mm nut set to a certain torque and have a new crush collar put it on the inside of your diff otherwise it can offset the internals of your diff reducing its life, but when I did mine i didn't bother and touch wood it hasn't gone bang yet.

It may help if you can get a impact gun on the nut as it is bloody tight or just a big breaker bar. keep the wheels on the ground otherwse the wheels will just spin when you attack the nut but keep the SJ well chocked otherwise it will run you over!

I think it depends what dealer you go to in a situation like that. My local main dealer (Chester) are robbing gets, but they do have them when you want them.
