Bump steer

I have got hurrendous bumpsteer! at 40 it begins to shudder then dies down as i speed up, but when slowing down it starts again at 40 and continues right down to 20, and this is a serious violent shake!

it runs on 29" rubbers, has RUF with drop shackles but they are all going to be binned and ad-a-leaf on standard fron springs put in place, and she has a pro comp steering damper. Will the shackles be adding to the poblem as she done it a little bit before but not as bad, and should i fit a heavy duty steering damper?

(she has been off the road for 18month and had the axle stripped and rebuilt, but the track rods were left untouched so in theory the track will be etc should be fine)

have you had your wheels balanced? it sounds like something as simple as this, you said pro comp damper, is it working?

I would also try and check the caster angle on the front axle as that can give you horrible bump steer if it's not correct. but from the wobble it doesn't really sound like that.
I know you've just rebuilt the axle but i would check to see if anything has worked itself loose since the rebuild as things like the kingpin bearings or wheel bearings could have settled in and developed a bit of play.

No reason why she damper shouldn't be ok, only one about 500mile before it came off the road, but will check it over, will also checkover the bearings king pins etc. the wheels were balanced fine before she came off the road, but when she has her MOT (booked for a week today) i will take her down and get them re-balanced.

ive had the same thing a trackrod end had gone but it still done it. it caused the u bolts on the axel to work loose. wen the steerin was mooved from side 2 side i could see the axel slighty move b4 the wheels did

what was the outcome of this..

86 is now off the road due the the exact same prob...???????

i will be doing the king pins in the morning just in case..

the only other thing i can think of is that i twisted the front axel around ( diff up) on the last
event..

if that is the case a new axel will be needed..

tony i had a 3inch shackle lift which had started to lean because the bushes had perished, my u-bolts were nackered and id bent my leafs where the shackles had dug in to many times my cure was to chuck the shackles and do a reversal from rhino rays, new leafs, add a leaf from llama 4x4 and new poly bushes all round it gave a whole new feel to the car, more direct steering and no longer wandering all over the road all i need to do now is new shocks sorted

but the fault i have is that bad ive started another thread

personnly i think it's going to show how i tend to over look the small things untill its

to late..............

I found out my issue is with my wheels or tyres as when i have the 29" tyres on it shakes n playes up, bt when i put my 30"tyres on she runs fine.
