Im posting on behalf of my son.

His sj has a soft top and is v Cold as the heater is somewhat poor.

He wants to fit a Hard top to it and thinks that you can get glass panels across the drivers and passenger and then fit a hard top across the back, Like a freelander.

I cant find any like this, is it possible to to do or retrofit a hard top.

Is the heater virtually useless or have a we a problem, the heater in my 1960's series land rover was more effective, i cant helpt think its a bit faulty.

Thanks for any help

Tim

Chances are that the heater matrix is full of mud and leaves so might be worth removing it for a clean, this does involve practically removing the dash though.

There's a hardtop on ebay at the moment.

My SJ is a soft top and I've never found it cold once the heater has warmed up so might be worth trying to clean the matrix.

It isn't possible. The heater of the SJ/sammy comes directly from hell, with only 2 temperature settings: hot and very hot.
During hardest winters, even with the soft top, I have to switch the heater on and off every few minutes, to avoid boiling.

Mine is the opposite. My engine never gets properly hot so I avoid using the heater if possible, though in cold weather I have to to keep the windows clear.

Slightly different climate in Italy and if the zook has never been offroad the heater probably isn't clogged up with mud etc!

maybe is a problem on right-driver models ^__^

here in Italy the sammy's heater is almost a mythic moster: my friends always asks me if my zuki is a regular car ..or an oven-on-wheels!
I must say that we seldom go under -5/-6°C...

EDIT: we posted the same time

There's something not right there then Ed, have you tested thermostat? Might not be fully closing.

Everyone seems to have random heater temps, or have to have their heater on when its hot!
I don't know how but the cooling system seems to work fine on my zook! That's one thing at least!

Mines working spot on now. It warmed up a bit off road the other week but nothing to write home about.

I do need to clean it out though, the blast of shredded dried leaves everytime I turn the fan on is annoying.
