Temp gauge broke

Hello again, just a quick one.

My temp gauge doesnt work. Does any one know what could be wrong with it, and how i can fix it?? Cheers.
86 SJ413 tin top, 1.6 8v, SU carb, YJ spring conversion, virtual lift, 33x12.5x15 KL71's, rocklobster, rear discs, power steering.

Check the wire on the temp sender on the inlet manifold.

yeah do that, mine has come off more than once, is yours the 1300cc? if so it is on the pump at the front of the engine bay

Yeah it is a 1.3.

If it has come off, put some plires on it and close it up a bit.

remove the wire of the sender,, turn on the ignition and short the wire to a good earth. whilst your doing that have someone to look at the gauge!, it should go right up to red. if it does, that means your gauge is good, and the sender is knacked..

I just found a loose wire in the engine bay, checked it like you said and it is the wire for the gauge. But i can find where it plugs in? im not sure where the sender is or what it looks like???

Thanks again for your help.
Just found it! The reason the wire was not connected is because the spade connecter has snapped off the sender :cry: So im going to try and solder the wire straight on to it.

Personally i would just put another female spade connector on the end. much easier to take the wire off if ever needed.
