SJ410 - turbo diesel conversion
Re: SJ410 - turbo diesel conversion
just going off what i was told, apparently its been welded up by rhino ray and done for muddyzook, possibly for a customer? anyhow its been made so the cases can still be split.
Re: SJ410 - turbo diesel conversion
Ah cool! I've seen them done before where the case can't be split.
I know the two guys from Muddyzook and I don't recall either of them running a diesel conversion? Ah well main thing is the gearbox is rebuildable if needed.

Re: SJ410 - turbo diesel conversion
Some good news and some bad news today.
good news is i got the good engine bolted up to the gearbox and dropped it in the chassis, after a lot of oohing and ahhing it went in, it was sitting way to high on the original mounts and pulling the gearbox up at a funny angle so i made some drop brackets if you will out of some thick 50mm flat bar we had left over at work and some landy engine mounts and seems to be sitting about right now, even had it running for a moment off the bit of fuel left in the pump. now i need to fit a rad, sort out the wiring, get a throttle cable working and fit the exhaust, ive also got a forge intercooler to fit. the only problem i have is the bonnet now wont shut, it catching on the intake so im either going to fit a 413 bonnet with the bulge or take the top half of the intake off which doesnt do anything anyway.
some pics.
and the bad news... ive gone and lost a 10mm socket from my new set, ive searched high and low the only place i can think of it being now is stuck under the bonnet somewhere, i wont be able to settle now until its found haha.
hoping to spend my dinner breaks & all next weekend on it getting everything else sorted.

Re: SJ410 - turbo diesel conversion
Looking great, I'm working towards a diesel swap myself. What kind of adapter for the transmission did you end up with?

Re: SJ410 - turbo diesel conversion
There isnt any adapter on this one. Its had the bellhousing cut off the vauxhall gearbox and welded onto the sj gearbox, its been done proper and looks really strong. You can get an adapter kit from KAP which is basically a plate to adapt the bolt holes and a massive custom flywheel. The peugeot 1500 engine mates upto an sj box fairly easily but its not turbo :-)

Re: SJ410 - turbo diesel conversion
Im considering a toyota 1-nd 1500cc TD... they do them a lot over here as diesel is really cheap!
and it will bolt to SJ413/samurai gearbox with an adapter plate
Unfortunately they are not a common engine in the UK :(

Re: SJ410 - turbo diesel conversion
How does the sj gearbox hold up with the strain from all the extra torque?
