To bob or not???

Post by ScottieJ » Wed Jan 07, 2015 12:21 pm

I'll be starting work on the lwb again soon. the question is do I bobtail it or not???

Did a quick paint photoshop to work out how much would chop off, think it will be around 200mm, I won't loose much storage space and it won't have the same departure angle as a swb but it will be a lot less likely to hang up.

I just don't see the point bob-tailing a LWB when you could just use a SWB instead. LWBs are so much harder to find.

The point is the advantages of the longer wheelbase, extra storage space and no huge rear overhang that gets caught on everything.

I can see you point that lwb sjs are rare and hard to find....However this one was beyond what most people would even bother repairing and it's getting loads of modifications anyway i.e. a big virtual lift and modded sills etc. I've actually seen a few lwb sjs that are better than this broken and scrapped in the last few years

That is the exact reason I restored the maruti the way I did, that was too good to cut up and modify the body, eventhough it would have been quicker to VL and box section sill it.

This one has had a 200mm chop and is on 33x10.50 tyres, pretty much the same size as what mine will be running.

I guess, if you think it's beyond restoration and you're going to chop it elsewhere for tyres then go for it.

It has already been chopped elsewhere...I had no choice, I did actually spend ages trying to find a good donor swb body to cut up and use to restore it, but after a long time searching I gave up.

Must admit really like the look of that red lwb,it looks better i think than say a swb version, not sure exactly why but it just looks well balanced.
