Telling the difference between Jap calipers and spanish

Post by gamble63 » Mon Feb 09, 2015 8:00 pm

Hey guys im looking to buy a set of calipers off one of the guys on here but we are unsure if they are Jap or Spanish, is there anyway to tell the difference. I have a Spanish sj410 and they are for the disc conversion.

if the calipers are different can i still use the discs and the caliper mounts?

Cheers

Jap ones should say asin on them and have littlw clips
Either sides of the pads.

Spanish should say lucas and have a squarer pad with
Springs on the top of them.

Jap SJ's tend to have Aisin calipers:

Spanish SJ's have Lucas-Girling:

That's the best picture of a Lucas-Girling I have, although it's a Vitara one and so the bleed valve and the bit where the brake line bolts in are in the wrong places.

Should (I think) still look a bit like that.

I always assumed the mounts were the same, but I've never been near a Lucas-Girling caliper.

I know Vitara calipers fit SJ Aisin caliper mounts, I guess I assumed that the same would be true of Lucas-Girling SJ calipers.

Gamble63 - what existing calipers do you have?

I have at the mo Spanish ones i believe as the car is a Spanish one.

the chap who said he could sort me out the dics, calipers and mounts has ones off a Jap model and a set of girling calipers.

id rather only carry one set of pads if i need to.

The mounts are the same - I ended up running with Aisin at the front and Girling at the back when I did my Fully floater as thats all I could get at the time.
