SJ413 - Rolled it, help!

Post by Gemma » Mon Feb 29, 2016 3:04 pm

Hi folks,

Short story: SJ413, 59000 on the clock, really good condition, paid £2000 last July. Managed to roll it on black ice two weeks ago and it's a write off. Offered £650 by insurers and I need some ammo to dispute it. Hoping some SJ owners or dealers can help me out...

As I said, really great condition, never used off-road. It was such a tidy example, not a spot of rust on her. Obviously when the inspectors looked for a value they're only coming up with results in the £500-£750 range which are either very bashed up or spares/repairs. I'm wondering if anyone has any links knocking about for when you've bought or sold a nice example of a 413 that I can use as ammo with the insurers.

Genuinely gutted I didn't get a full Summer in her but definitely feeling lucky to still be here. Being 5ft tall certainly worked to my advantage in this scenario!

Here's a link to the wreck if anyone's interested... http://i.imgur.com/GWFMy4z.jpg.

 Looks like you were very lucky to escape that accident! really sucks to hear that the insurers are offering so little as well.

Here's a few tidy looking ones up for the usual sort of price.

I have seen a few Very tidy examples go for £2000-2500, do you not have anything to prove how much you paid for the SJ, I presume that you didn't arrange an agreed value when you insured the SJ?

I also just realised that this SJ used to belong to one of our members, I recognised the number plate

Ta Scottie.

Oh god, don't tell them I ruined it, it was unavoidable I swear!!!

I believe I have a written receipt from the guy I bought it from. Insurance wise I just put in what I paid for it... I'm sure I could get additional proof via bank statements. Was there something else I should have done?

Sorry if I sound a bit uneducated, it's because I am!

I also found this one, which looks pretty good:

with some classic cars it can just be wise to get an agreed value when you first take out the policy as insurers often try to say that they aren't worth as much as they are. I'm sure with a bit of fighting you can negotiate a better pay out though.

This one would be a better comparison as it isn't modified. I believe this also used to belong to a member on here, not sure what the final sale price was though?

Ah I see, well at least I know now for any future purchases. It was a bit of an impulsive buy; saw it, loved it, bought it.

This is exactly what I need! Thank you so much. I just need to give examples to push it up closers to the £2k mark. I'm alright to lose a bit of cash, just not 65% of what I paid.

Fingers crossed the insurers will be quick at responding. I live rurally and since it's a write off I apparently don't get a courtesy car, avoid Dial Direct (Co-Operative Insurance)!

Good to hear your okay?

Do you have any pictures pre accident wise? Or details
From the advert when you purchased it? As a Kind of proof to show its pre accident condition to the insurance company?

All good now thank you! Considering the headrest was buried in the ground I was remarkably unscathed; bad whiplash, some bruising and a brief spell of unconsciousness. Could have been a lot worse... You weren't the Andy that previously owned my SJ were you?

I've just found the advert for my car from last July. Could you guys take a look and just see what you think? I'm pretty sure it was worth what I paid (£2k) but I'm by no means an expert. At least if it's worth less it will make the financial hit a little less painful...?

Also, let me know if this thread would be better in one of the other SJ specific sections of the forum, I wasn't sure where to put it.

Welcome to the forums, and I'm glad you're ok - I'm not sure how you survived that, looking at the picture!

I can't help with the valuation side of things, but I hope you get a decent settlement, and that any injuries heal nicely!
