Attempting!!!!! a Samurai restoration

Hey guys, not too long ago I signed up to the forum and welcomed myself etc etc... well i've been faffing with the samurai for a bit and thought I'd start a build thread!

So started out like this..


and just a few bolts later...


ft. custom electrical rainproofing

almost got the body off, only thing I can't undo are the rear light cluster earths because the tow hitch holder bar thing is in the way

sorry for the awful photos, it was raining... I can't undo the 2 screws holding the earths on, stupid metal thing is in the way! any ideas?

by the way maybe this samurai is the only one that didn't have rusted on body mounts? quick zip with the bump gun and off we went!

there is also a list starting to accumulate of things that I might need... anybody got a heavenly shed full of bits somewhere?

I would just cut them, as long as pos, can always extend them later.

Yeah just jut them as close to the lug as you can, you can always crimp new lugs on again later, great work so far, looking forward to updates, it looks like an awesome project!

Well, it's off, and on bricks. I'm too much of a whimp to actually get it off with my dad, getting some pals round over the next couple of days to help me out.


Ended up cutting off the earth wires, rusty screws are the bane of my life

anybody know if this is genuine Suzuki? pretty sure it came with the samurai when mum bought it about 30 years ago so...



Also got a question guys, the chrome ball bits on the front axle... swivel things? (not very good with terminology) are less chrome more rust... is there anything I can do to these? change the ends etc? and I understand that there's a load of underseal crap on the bottom of the body, any tips as to how to remove it?

Yes thats a genuine tow bar......the plate gives it away

The knuckle balls on sjs aren't polished and shiny like on land rovers, just clean them up as best you can, maybe use some high build primer and good paint on them. I have known people to filler and smooth them but personally i don't see the point.

So body is off! friends let me down but turns out my brother is bloody strong!


In the process of gunking and cleaning, going to paint up the axles etc black and I suppose the chassis should be the same colour as the body?

Found a couple problems, assume it's been leaking from somewhere around here

And this

seems a little uh... broken.

Looks like it's been in a crash at some point? there's a little dent in the bulkhead, nothing a hammer can't fix though.



So, recondition brakes, new brake lines, fuel lines, paint up everything then on to bodywork? haven't missed anything have i? Can't see there being a problem with the diffs or anything as it's been offroading on a Road tax vehicle thing once, ever so would you guys bother stripping the axles?
