Ideally you need to pull the crank and inspect the bearings and check the tolerances. Not much point replacing the oil pump and ignoring those as that could be where the problem lies. You need to be careful with the G series engines because if you loose oil pressure the cam will run dry and seize. I've had it happen to me.

This happened to me shortly after i put a vit lump in,
The engine looked a good'un but sadly something went wrong and i suffered with the oil pressure light flickering away. I swapped the pump for a used one and this cured the issue but very breifly, when i had drained the new and fresh oil id put in there was a heavy metallic shimmer to it.

i just accepted it was doing some damage and knowing that i would be replacing the engine, i thrashed the ass off it daily trying to kill it and ran it on random oils i had in the workshop, even some old used stuff and accidentally some used brake fluid went in there aswell.

Never did die suprisingly, used it like that for months, smoked and rattled,knocked alot when cold tho but still went like stink .

Well I removed the sump & oil pump, nothing out of the ordinary inside the sump, oil pickup pipe looks clean with no blockage, Ill dismantle the oil pump and inspect as it says in the haynes manual but there's no sign of damage and not producing any nasty noises when I turn it.

I'm kind of at a loss now as what to do next? Do I dismantle the engine further?

Ive just come in to have a cuppa tea and a warm up, I might carry on with this in the morning.

**UPDATE**

well after stripping half the engine down, I spoke to a mechanic who told me that the very first thing he does with any low oil pressure problems is to try a new oil filter!

So, I needed to move the sj last weekend and decided to put her back together and try a new oil filter, and goodbye oil pressure light!!

She's now back to being my daily driver.

So a bit of advice to anyone in this situation and a lesson learned by me, if you have oil pressure problems, try your oil filter first!!!
