Hi all, I have a lwb sj413 and when I got it the engine was really underpowered, it revs up to about 4000rpm sort of ok then it really doesn't want to rev alot higher, drives fine in every gear but just underpowered...... it seems to be spitting what I think is oil from the exhaust when you rev it and it leaves alot of black stains on the floor from revving, could this just be the valves or something?.....
I want to rebuild the engine at some point in time, I would do it myself but frankly I dont have the time or the knowledge to do so, so is there some sj guru in the uk I can send it too and have it rebuilt?
Now the carb..... when I got it, it had the original 32/36 carb on it and I was told one of the things that could be making it underpowered was the carb so I planned on changing it to a su44 carb, got the carb tried fitting it and for one reason or another it wouldn't fit, so I have now put back the original back on but when I put it back on it was reluctant to start then when It did start it wouldnt idle at all and it would rev uncontrollably even when you tried giving it a little throttle, and then it started to spit 12 inch flames out the exhaust which I'll admit was cool but I know it's not meant to do that...... original carb is now off for being cleaned at the moment but I had wondered about trying a nikki carb?
Carb and engine troubles with my lwb sj413
Re: Carb and engine troubles with my lwb sj413
Great looking truck! Really missing my LWB!
In my experience, the weber 32/36 is a cracking carb but needs to be set up properly.
There are guides on Weber's site that tell you exactly how you need to tune it. Is recommend cleaning it and rebuilding it, should have plenty power.
P.s. I call dibs if you want to sell it

Thanks! I'll look into it further
The only reason I'd be selling it would be if I couldnt get it running but ill let you know

Re: Carb and engine troubles with my lwb sj413
That is very tidy.
So is the carb on there a Weber 32/36 or the stock Aisin carb? If it’s the stock carb then I wouldn’t bother trying to sort it, they are over complicated and have a few issues.
If it’s a Weber, then a clean up and rebuild is deffo the way to go.
