Looking well so far, I'm in the same boat never welded before definitely comes in handy.

Grab scraps of steel from somewhere and practice on them. It helps if you have a Hilux obsessed mate called Scottie who's been welding since the beginning of time to help guide you, but it's probably not strictly necessary.
1985 SJ413VX (SJ50V) with SPOA, rear disc brakes, 31x10.5R15 Kaiman Malatesta tyres, an MOT and a lot left to do!
