Ignition Barrel

Post by Turb() » Sun Jan 16, 2011 4:32 pm

Rght, didnt know what section to put this in so I thought general should cover it :p

Got my new lock set off ScottieJ (much appreciated!) and fit the door lock fine with no problems, but I'm having a slight issue with the ignition barrel! I.E. I've got no idea how to change it

The new one has go 2 threaded holes all the way through the barrel, that presumably a couple of bolts go through...
But my old one doesnt have holes right the way through, and where I would assume a bolt goes it has just got a stud type thing that seems to be held tight.
Also you can only see one as the other one is on top of the steering column under the dash :argh:

Anyone got any suggestions? lol

They are bolted onto the steering colom with 2x snap now bolt thinks.
They are an anti theft device, but a smal chizzel or center punch you can start them off and undo them with your fingers.

No worries matey

Pop the clocks out of the dash and you can get to the top one easier
I also use mole grips for mine.
While its out replace the studs with bolts to make life easier in the future.

I found hammer and screwdriver works OK...

I happened to have them in the truck when I snapped the key in the ignition barrel :)

Sweet cheers lads!
It was only the visible one that had the anti theft thingy on it. I couldnt get mole grips on it so the hammer and chisel method worked for me!
The one the other side was just a bolt so goty a socket on it and happy days!

Cheers for all your help lads 8-)
