dijon..... R.I.P

Post by andyrew » Wed Mar 21, 2012 10:30 pm

hey guys.

well what can i say. the pick ups in pieces still and ive been rather lazy in getting it done. ive got some work to do to the tin top but its my daily driver so cant be off the road to do some of it. its serving me well (except for fuel  ) and has done approx 10k in a year with only one faliure.

so after reading a topic on difflock about a barn save sj, another member mentioned that if he had another silly offer he would break the sj he was selling. well not wanting another one to meet its maker, i spoke to paul and a price was agreed.to go get the sj as i had acess to a van and driver, also had access to tilt bed car trailer. simples surely?

ermmmm no. trailer had no brakes, not just a bit stiff. but nothing what so ever. so two late nights were spent fixing the brakes and wiring on the trailer. then the boss took the van. :bawling: . so saturday became hectic. as i needed the van to travel to nottingham too in the afternoon.

well its all got done eventually and here she is

the pictures make it look better than in the metal, but shes pretty solid. only a 50p size hole to patch  and the rear quarters are a bit bubbly by the bumpers.

started tonite by stripping of the clutter. some rather low quality workmanship has gone into the fitting of some bits.

centre panel was fudged, so gooey crap in the cubby box. and just a mess, so a new one was fitted

much better,

interesting interior light

my pet hate is untidy wiring so this lot has now gone. its was every where, choc blocks, scotch blocks, speaker wire allsorts of stuff.

closable air intake?

shes currently has a 1600, but im converting back to 1300, so a new engine was needed. no van so the trusty tin top had to step up and do the 220 mile round trip to nottingham to pick up the engine, an exhaust and an ARB. she did brilliant on fuel 30+ mpg and didnt skip a beat a steady 60mph and some tunes on. unfortunately the next day the rear wheel bearing collapsed as i drove off my driveway. :hahaha: .

so the plans.
strip it of clutter - lights, snorkel, nudge bar thing, ariels, other crap.
sell unwanted bits, engine wheels grille .
shorten shackles
poly bush replacement springs.
patch hole in rear floor
fit new doors (ones caved in)
repaint in millitary grey.
fit new engine and exhaust.
MOT and enjoy.

i will update regularly as its a quick turn around time for this little sj.

I just love that vent!

Could probably get more air in through the washer jets!

i think it was a low budget build.

i do like my sjs to look fairly standard. but this build is going to be on a budget for me too, so if i cant find bits cheap ill make my own.

looking for a front bumper if anyones local to bedfordshire?

can wait to get it out in the sun with the top down.

how does the windscreen lock down to the bonnet when folded down?

Originally a little leather strap. Nowadays a cable tie!
