Jay's SJ410 VBJA now sold :(

Post by Jay18 » Sat Jun 30, 2012 4:20 pm

So i thought it was about time i done a build thread on my SJ so here goes...

this is on the day i got the car 26/06/2010 (pics are bad quality as the phone i used was rubbish!)
cant seem to get the pics closer but you get the idea...

so work began...

first thing i got was a tin of black hammerite so the painting began...
all the under side of the car was cleaned and i painted all of the bottom of the car and chassis..

then i bought a nice new pair or front springs...

i treated the car with a set of standard size vitara wheels...

And then i had an idea, since the Suzuki SJ is well know for falling over i thought some 3" arches would go well with a set of vitara wideboy wheels...

i used two trailor arches cut down the middle and welded onto the car after cutting all the rust out but because of the amount of rust that was cut out i had to buy some sheet steel and patch up the gaps, then when cleaned and filled it looked great, here are the pics....

i am currently doing the rear springs, after taking nearly a whole day doing just one spring as i had to hack saw a bolt off to remove the spring and then had to walk 2 miles from my nans house where the car is kept back to my house to get a bolt for a replacement and then walked back up there...
so tomorrow hopefully i wil get the other spring fitted.....

Well done for rescuing her. Thats quite a bit of rust you've cut out there
Those springs are normally a pain in the ar*e. Chucked grease all over mine but the buggers still rusted together :argh:

looks like we had the same problem, the spring mount bolt wouldnt come out of mine so i had to cut it out with a hacksaw then i found that the bolt had rusted and expanded so i couldnt pull it out so i had to get a new bolt from home to replace it, think im going to have to do the same thing the other side but ive got a second bolt so im prepared, this has been a big project mainly taking alot of time since im unemployed and just finished college aswel but its getting close to the M.O.T...

That wheel-arch job is the dogs unmentionables! You had huge holes to fill and yet the outside is smoother than....a very smooth thing.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

thanks guys! it has took a lot of work to get to where it is now, just little bits to get a mot now and i did spend weeks and weeks on filling and sanding to get a good finish, just need a few more coats of paint and it should look very clean and smooth...

very nice looking, I like how you've added the box section to your sills to mate your extended wheel arches together it almost looks standard but loads more functional!

Great job!

thanks! when we finished the arches i thought it looked a bit wierd then i found some 3" by 2" box and it fitted perfectly to the width of the arches and works great as a side step, after standing on it and finding its completely solid i then thought id test the arches and i can bounce up and down on all 4 arches and the dont move at all so it is all very strong :)...

Nice work, came out real good. :guns:

I do have to admit I still think you should trim the front of the front arches up to the bottom of the front wings though. It will look a lot cleaner I think.
