Asian caliper rebuild kit cost?

Post by jibb » Sun Jul 29, 2012 11:24 pm

Just wanted to know how much the kit costs with a piston and without, I wrote down the part
Numbers from the "how to guide" but my calipers aren't in great condition at all and one of the sliders is ceased so it's twisting the caliper, not to mention some monkey rounded off the 6mm Allen key bolt!

Is it worth trying to rebuild mine or look for some second hand calipers to rebuild?

Thanks, I did search but couldn't find exactly what I wanted!

Cheapest place for front discs for a jap 88 410 would be smashing aswell as there 60 quid on eBay!

Hi mate. I'm having problems with my front brakes too. I replaced my callipers with second hand items
Last year and they've been ok until now. I had to partly refurb them when I got them as they weren't in good condition either

I would suggest refurbing your own if possible. If its just the sliding pins you can easily clean them up. But if the pistons siezed like mine then your not going to be able to do much without a seal kit. And it seems they arnt available for these callipers.

I think I'm going to buy a brand new calliper otherwise it seems I'm just going to have to refurb these every 6 months and I can't be having that.

These guys are supposed to have the seals for the asins , although they are not listed on the website. Maybe worth giving them a ring or email.

List the disc at £18 too.

I'm having a set of new ones on now regardless

Although I do have a jimny at home not doing much. Im going to try swapping the brakes over from that and if they fit, I should be able to find some cheaper callipers & more available seal kits.

There's a jimny seal kit on eBay (big red) it says it's for aisin callipers with a 51mm piston

Iv never measured the pistons in an SJ but il find out tomorrow when I strip mine down.

Aisin SJ callipers also have 51mm pistons so that seal kit could work

Brand new SJ Aisins are £89 + vat
Brand new jimny Aisins are £65 + vat

Andrew page prices.

If I was to refurb the calliper I would want to replace the piston as well btw

Never heard of bigg red, but just had a look at their site and they seem to have a perfect kit ??.

I think that's good value as it comes with all the bits in the pic. you would pay that at Suzuki just for the slide seals

yeah i never found the SJ ones only Jimny.

I cant decide wether to buy new callipers or just rebuild my own with this kit. If im going to have ongoing problems i would rather just buy new callipers.

Do you think its worth buying this kit and refurbing mine ?

saying that its going to be £50 for seal kit and piston plus postage and whatever else. New Jinmy callipers are about £75. not that much in it really counting in the time and effort to rebuild them

I have no idea what the difference is between an SJ and Jimny caliper , but every place I've seen refurbished calipers they are over £100 each. Those prices you found are good. Have you removed the pistons before ? . I only ask as they normally clean up with some fine wet & dry paper/wire wool and WD40. However if they have any rust pitting then they have to go.
