Bit of a strange one this. Gearing up a Maruti
Ok, been contacted via ebay for a 413 t/box to be shipped to Malta to gear up a Maruti with a 1.5 diesel engine.
As expected i said JOIN THIS AWESOME FORUM.
I'm going to search for a cheap price to ship it. Just wondered if there was a simple way to make it higher geared?

Not sure of a simple way to do it, but this reminded me of an LJ80 my dad saw in Malta that was fitted with a marine diesel 2.2 BMC motor!!!! Most of the cylinder head was poking out of a hole cut in the bonnet. Most of been able to do all of 30miles an hour with LJ gearing and the engine ways a ton, as I know from experience, so god only knows what it drove like!!!! Strange lot these Maltese!!!

Wouldn't a Maruti already come with a 413 t-case?

Samurai T-case I think. I seem to remember that Samurais had lower ratios in the gear and trans boxes and then higher ratio diffs.Anton wrote:Wouldn't a Maruti already come with a 413 t-case?
There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Samurai and 413 cases are the same, both have Hi 1.41:1 and Lo 2.27:1 ratios, this the highest ratio Tbox's you can get for an SJ.Edweird wrote:Samurai T-case I think. I would have thought that Maruti's already use the 413/samurai Tbox though? unless it's an early one and they have a 410 tbox fitted?
Jordi I would suggest asking what ratio diffs and Tbox it has fitted.

Yes, and if it's a "fat prop" 410 ratio box, if he wants a couple of quid for it.ScottieJ wrote:Samurai and 413 cases are the same, both have Hi 1.41:1 and Lo 2.27:1 ratios, this the highest ratio Tbox's you can get for an SJ.Edweird wrote:Samurai T-case I think. Re: Bit of a strange one this. Gearing up a Maruti
I've just been told (I don't know how accurate this information is) that the later, coiled SJ's (SJ80's??) had:ScottieJ wrote:Samurai and 413 cases are the same, both have Hi 1.41:1 and Lo 2.27:1 ratios, this the highest ratio Tbox's you can get for an SJ.
Hi 1.320
Lo 2.123
These were (supposedly) chain driven t-cases, like the Jimny's. So it's possible Maruti is fitting these SJ's with different ratios to the 413/Sammy or 410 - as *we* know it. Just in case things weren't confussilating enough.
It'd be nice to know for sure what Maruti is/was manufacturing, because I can see a time when SJ parts are so hard to find that clubbing together to get bits from India would actually make sense! I remember reading somewhere (can't think where now) that a guy imported new axles from India because it only cost marginally more than buying a second hand set here. Whether he meant complete live axles, or just half-shafts, I can't say.
