oops . . . diff go boom

Post by muddymesser » Fri Mar 22, 2013 9:26 pm

had a little problem afew weeks back with my rear diff . . . only 7 bolts came loose on the crown wheel and it only sheered the remaining 3 on it

oh and broke a chunk off the diff aswell

just until i can get a new diff ive just fitted new bolts and welded the heads so they dont come loose

luckily i was just around the corner from my workshop when it went so i just put it in 4wd and carried on

Oh dear! That looks nasty! I've seen a prop shaft come off and smash a gearbox housing to pieces. A bit bigger than a SJ one though, it was 5 ft long and 6 inches in diameter, now that made a horrible noise. Sounded like £7K being chewed up !
There's three ways of doing things,
1) The Right Way,
2) The Wrong Way
3) My Way.
2 & 3 are usually the same.
