A mate of mine just insured his mx5, they said it would be £400 to have it start on the friday, £460 for the saturday, and £385 the following monday...how that makes sense i dont know, so I agree with Jordi, worth looking over a period and also worth asking if they can freeze a quote for a few weeks so if you go back you know what to expect, NFU did that for me when looking for insurance for my vivaro.

I used the comparison sites and found a quote of £460 with most mods declared (not the alloy wheels, because I'm just going to use the steels instead - with the allys it was £560!)

I wish this conversation had come to my attention sooner... Oh well, next year! :D

Sorted :doublethumbs:

I'm with Adrain flux, fully comp, all 2 pages of mods declared, limited to 5k miles and an agreed value of £4k for £265 a year.

For modded vehicles I always phone around as comparison sites are generally crap for them.

I have new seats I got off of Mike. Can't install them because every mod increases the cost of insurance more than the last one - adding one mod (doesn't matter what) to my current list adds £100 to the premium. 2 adds about £250.

So alloys and new seats would've added another £250 to my premium. A 3rd jumped my premium from £460 to over a grand. So no cage for me.

A 4th and they would just flat out refuse to insure me.

I've only got my suspension mods, brake mods and tyres declared. So I have to use my steel rims, leave the seats in my front room until next year, and I can't even think about a cage.

Oh, and I have to refit my rear seat. Which I think is in a landfill somewhere. Doh!

I'll call and ask what it'll do to my premium to modify my SJ later - many insurance companies don't up their premiums much for mods that are done part way through a policy that's already in effect.

Still, wishing I'd called your insurer, that's for sure!

That's exactly why I don't use comparison sites! It's just a con!

Who is the insurance actually with? Have you had it long? Sometimes you can easily cancel it in the first

Insure2Drive, which I believe is just Sabre under a different name.

Policy started on the 5th. I'll try calling them to talk to them about this tomorrow - the car is still SORN anyway - I only got the policy this early to stop me losing my no claims!

Thought I would reopen this topic, got my renewal through a few days ago £500+ that said it is was for the vehicle in Blitz form but as it is rebodied back as a Sammi said they we would knock £50 off as I could lock it now...........(that was 3PFF)
Got a quote from Carole Nash as they have my motorbike insurance, they said it could be put on a classic car policy - its a 1990, 3000 miles a year, commuting, 3 named drivers and a home made front bumper!! £237 fully comp, with it being a classic car policy I couldnt transfer my no claims discount just wonder if any of you guys have gone down a classic car policy?
