hmmm, will have to keep this all in a note on my phone along with all the other zuk mods lol
i wont be doing it until im 21 as i will be getting some money from my grandad, so ill hopefully be able to do an engine conversion as long as the insurance doesnt go through the roof again lol, i do like the sound of a m15a, would i need to make a new enhaust or will a jimny manifold bolt to the m15a? anything after the manifold i can get made or make myself i think...

I believe that the Jimny manifold will fit. I know that many M series Jimny owners fit M15's, M16's and M18's, and from what I've read, everything is kept stock. The lambda sensor works the fueling out. Don't even need to mess with the ECU.

The M18 engine won't work with the M13 ECU. The M15 and M16 engines get by on the M13 ECU but the fuelling will always be a little out because the lambda correction is relatively slow and its not a linear correction. You can't mix VVT and non-VVT engines and ECUs.
The M engines are OBD2 so you need all the emissions stuff as well.

Rhinoman - I don't mean to argue, but the auszookers threads I've read about the 1.8 swap say the 1.3 ECU works with the 1.8.

Yes I've seen that but if you hunt around on that site for the full details then you'll find that the guys running the swap have issues with the fuelling despite trying different injectors. The 1.8 engine has a very different torque curve to the M13 so the VE table is quite different. You may find that its 'adequate' but that can be interpreted differently by different people, unfortunately you'll only be able to determine your interpretation after you've done the swap.
Remapping is possible but may not be a simple case of switching the maps, I've looked at a few ECUs and the M13A is a 16-bit ECU, the M18A uses a 32-bit ECU - they are quite different.

I knew there were some issues with idling when using the M18 manifold with the M13 ECU, I didn't realise there was such a problem with them.
Perhaps it's not such a big deal that we only have the 1.5/1.6 over here then!
I'm thinking that if I ever do a M15 swap, I'll get a Jimny engine, gearbox, starter, loom, ECU, exhaust etc, then once it's all plumbed in and working, swap in the M15 crank, rods and pistons.
That way I bypass some of Ladaman's issues...

Why bother fucking about with a 1.3? What's the point?
Fit a 1.6 8v or 16v. And be done with it.
Diesels in sjs do not work. I don't care what anyone says, suzukis where designed to be light weight. If you look up diesel engine in dictionary it says heavy, only good for land rovers.
I have seen to many people try and fit a dirty smelly stupid Diesel engine. And they have all been hopeless.
Improve your sj. Don't ruin it, seen it happen far to often.

The issue he's got with the 1.6 is increased tax and insurance, hence thinking about a 1.3.
I agree with you about heavy diesel engines ruining an SJ. That's why I suggested (in another thread, to another person) the VAG 1.2 TDI.
Lighter than a G13 engine, slightly more HP, double the torque. Should bolt up using the VAG 1.9 TDI conversion kits.
But good luck finding one with everything you need for less than a couple of grand.

Really the trick to the 1.6 conversion is getting older quicker so you can get the insurance for under £200!

How would a set of bike throttlebodies/carbs on his F10a affect his insurance?
I've heard of one litre engines being brought to 100hp with bike carbs. Not sure about the torque (that should go up proportionally, as HP and torque are mathematically and intrinsically linked - you can't raise one without raising the other unless you're just messing with the redline) but perhaps that's a good avenue for research?
