How to fit hard top
How to fit hard top
Hi Folks,
Im a brand new SJ owner.... a total novice in every sence. The vehicle I bought has a soft top fitted, was supplied with a hard to in several pieces, A glass section, a plastic section x2 window sections and a rear door feame and window section with a pole thinggy attached. There are some things that look like kinda runners or fixers. Does any one have any drawings of how this is ment to fit or no any one in the glasgow area who wont cost an arm and leg that will be able to assist fitting this hard top....
Thanks guys

First, welcome to the club.
To start, depending on what type of hardtop you have, the rear glass section will either fit onto the rear door or the hardtop itself. The two side windows fit to the top of the roof section, and the glass bit you mention should fit over the front of the cab with the addition of a few pieces of rubber that you shold have had supplied with the hard top.
If you can post some pics of the hardtop, I will be able to give you more detailed instructions on how to fit it to the SJ. There are so many different types of hardtop, each with thier own methods of fitting them (although they are all pretty similar).

Re: How to fit hard top
Begin by bolting the sides onto the top with M6x20 bolts. Don't forget to use washers. Get a willing helper to help you lift the canopy onto the SJ. Fix it on to the back of the SJ using M6 bolts (or quick release fitting clips) depending on what fittings you have with the top.
It looks as though your rear door bolts onto the rear door of the SJ. Bolt the rear hardtop door to the rear door of the SJ with the brackets you should have with the hardtop. If it is the type that bolts onto the roof section, bolt it to the roof.
The front glass section clips onto the front of the SJ. You should have either three pieces of rubber, or a single "U" shaped piece of rubber that fits over the front and sides of the SJ. Fit this on first, and then close the clips.
