SU carb question
SU carb question
Hi... Quick question... If I fit an SU carb in my SJ410... Do I use the standard air box with it?

Re: SU carb question
Nice one... thank you! I shall check that out. I have been looking for an air box, but I am thinking I should go for an SU if I am messing about with it.

Re: SU carb question
tbh the main improvement of the SU is that the HIF44 is much more reliable than the carb fitted to 1.3 SJs.
As the 410 carb is working I might save myself the hassle and keep it, they are pretty good carbs anyway

Re: SU carb question
Think you will find that the HIF 44 is too much for a 410 - when I had mine I used a HIF 38 with the standard air box.
Re: SU carb question
I think Twiss meant HIF 38... Did it make a big difference? The stock carb is working fine at the moment, is it worth changing to an SU?Pugsley wrote:Think you will find that the HIF 44 is too much for a 410 - when I had mine I used a HIF 38 with the standard air box.

Re: SU carb question
I think I just replied to you on Facebook too.
don't bother changing a stock 410 carb if it is working. they are brilliant little carbs.

Yeah I only mentioned the HIF44 in relation to the 1.3 enginePugsley wrote:Think you will find that the HIF 44 is too much for a 410 - when I had mine I used a HIF 38 with the standard air box.
HIF38 is definitely the correct one for the 1.0, but as me and dan have said, not really necessary unless your carb is broken!
As some indicator of how good 410 carbs are... we pulled a 410 out of a barn... hadn't moved for 10 years
It was so bad that the throttle disc was completely jammed solid, about half an hour with the carb cleaner and it was going perfectly again!

Re: SU carb question
That's cool... I will stick with the original carb and put and air box on.
