SJ410 -1985 'Cabrio', engine rebuild
Re: SJ410 -1985 'Cabrio', engine rebuild
Doh. Truck spent about 30 mins sat in deep water on Saturday. All seems okay though, the gearbox is fubar'd anyhoo. 5th gear sounds like it's about to explode.
Re: SJ410 -1985 'Cabrio', engine rebuild
I would drain flush and refil the whole drivetrain then
Re: SJ410 -1985 'Cabrio', engine rebuild
does the f10a engine's gearbox have a breather on it too? can't seem to find it on mine
It's not a question of how much you spend on your suzuki, but when your money will run out
Re: SJ410 -1985 'Cabrio', engine rebuild
Fitted my CB and aerial tonight. Not picking up anything atm but I'm in a real built up area. Will have to test it out with my mates radio as I don't even know what sort of range to expect from it.

Make sure you set it up properly with an SWR meter otherwise it might end up dead!

Do you know how to set up a CB with an SWR meter, Chris?

With the SWR meter connected, set it to FWD.
Set radio to middle channel (ie 20 on a 40 chan radio)
Hold down the transmit button and adjust the meter so the needle goes to the "Set" position.
Release the transmit button.
Set SWR meter to REF (reflected). Hold down transmit button.
SWR will be shown on meter
3+ is very bad and will screw your radio
2 or less is OK
1.5 or less is excellent
Check SWR on top middle and bottom channels (either 1-20-40 or 1-40-80 depending on radio)
If SWR is higher on bottom channel your aerial is too long.
If SWR is higher on top channel aerial is too short.
Aerials should have a small screw on them which allows the aerial length to be adjusted.
Try not to adjust by more than 1/4" at a time
The aim of the game is to get a steady 1.5 or less on all channels, but 2 or less on all channels is acceptable
If SWR reading is high on all channels your aerial is badly earthed

Also you should expect between 2 and 30 miles depending on location, aerial and atmospheric conditions
As an example, when I'm in the middle of Brighton city I can get a couple of miles
When Im on top of the South Downs I can get about 25-30 miles
But I do have a massive aerial!

Sounds easy enough, I should try that.

Everyone should! So many people just plug them in and go!
If your SWR is over 3 your radio wont last very long!
