Heater blowing lukewarm air MG410 Gypsy
Heater blowing lukewarm air MG410 Gypsy
Hi all,
My 410 is blowing only very mildly warm air, and only on number 1. If i make the fan go any faster the air starts coming out cold.
I noticed the other day that in traffic it gets slightly warmer (the air from the heater), but only slightly.
The temp gauge makes it to about 1/3 up the scale and sits there or goes a bit lower if its cold and im moving. It does have a thermostat at 85C. The water pipe to the top of the rad is too hot to touch when its up to temp so its working ok i guess.
Why else could it be not blowing nice and toasty? Cheers

That sounds to me like a blockage in your heater core somewhere. But I'm really the opposite of an expert on heater cores, I really am just guessing.

Defiantly sounds like your heater core is blocked or damaged.

There is a valve in the engine bay that controls the amount of water that go's into the matrix. Check that that is opening fully. Mine was rusted stiff when I bought it but a bit of wd40 sorted it out.

I would check that heater valve as mentioned above... even with a crappy matrix I'd think SOME hot water would get into it... and give at least lukewarm

If anyone in my needs the entire heater I have mine in a cardboard box in the shed somewhere. Never tested of it worked but water wasn't bypassed and wasn't any leaks so I assume it does. Free to anyone who wants it

Its quite common for the heater matrix to get covered in crap, if say it's regularly parked under a tree.

Re: Heater blowing lukewarm air MG410 Gypsy
There is a lot of air coming through. Just ain't very hot. I had a look at the valve thing and in fully hot mode from the dash it wasn't very open. I disconnected the cable and have wedged it in fully hot position. If it works I'll leave it like this. Never need cold as in summer just blows hot anyway lol. And now in our freezing 15c temps hot air can help with mist
