The old Bus has got its MOT tomorrow.............
Have the Vitara LWB booked in for the MOT tomorrow, cannot be bothered this time to check it over myself,so my mechanic mate who is best of pals with the MOT tester will pick it up and if all goes welli am hoping to get another years driving out of the old gal.
The main tin worm on the Vitara is in the sills behind the plastic coverings, but that was the only major thing it failed on last year, but all the welding was done for me at a very reasonable price and touch wood the Vitara has been totally trouble free.
Of course one cannot be 100% certain that it will pass but we will put it through the test and only thing i think it will fail on is 2 rear tyres,so rather than pay out for the tyres 1st then find out its been trashed for say mayor chassis problems we decided the tyres would go on straight after the test. Also as they are supplying the tyres it could make them less likely to fail it.
Will update again tomorrow, the Vitara has all ways been my work horse for hunting/fishing/shooting on farmland, although not used totally off road like some of you folks but at least i can just by flicking a stick engage the 4x4 and get off a ploughed field.Must admit its never failed me yet,it just plugs away and has got out of some really deep muddy conditions without all the expense of a high end Chelsea tractor,i think my total running costs of this Vitara for nearly 2 years would be the same as my mates massive big BMW X5 and i bet i get more fun than what he does.

Not if depreciation is factored in - then he's spent 3x as much as you...RickUK wrote:,i think my total running costs of this Vitara for nearly 2 years would be the same as my mates massive big BMW X5 and i bet i get more fun than what he does.

As yet i dont have a clue, still waiting but should be back with me within the hour,no phone calls from to say that it failed but until i get that magic bit of paper in my hand its still in the lap of the gods.Tramp wrote:Did it pass?!
I will of course update later on one way or the other,it would have had to of had 2 new rear tyres for sure, but the main thing is always the tinworm,it does have some but that is not in any of the critical places and after having the sills done last year it should last possibly another year or 2.

FAILED.
2 Rear tyres,i was expecting that, but the game plan was not putting them on 1st till we found out about any other majors.
Exhaust from the cat back.
The big problem and as yet not checked it out,it failed both nearside and offside corrosion within 30cm of the body mounting just behind the front bumper.
Cost in all to get the ticket about £500,do i think its worth it ?? actually i think it is,will make the final decision over the weekend.Gutted but that is what you expect with older Suzuki's

Re: The old Bus has got its MOT tomorrow.............
All the MOT repairs will be done on monday, although i am getting a decent car for my wife to drive,i am thinking £500 to keep my old Bus on the road for another year is pretty cheap, mechanically it is perfect.
So that is my game plan.

Well you'd probably spend at least £500 on a replacement of the same ilk, and you'd probably need to get the same welding done, to me the options are easy, better the devil you know - so I'd say money well spent!

If it's done properly, and properly painted to prevent it rusting again, then the Vit will last and last after that.
If it's mechanically perfect, then Luke's right - it'll be worth it because to replace the thing will cost more than that.
