Martin's Suzuki SJ413 - Update: Rust Rust Rust....

Post by Martin86 » Sat Dec 13, 2014 4:54 pm

I have been on this forum for a few years now but never really posted much as I didn't have a SJ! Anyway after 6 Months looking at Nato Green Painted rust buckets I found this little SJ down to road! Very little money changed hands and it was mine.

Bodywork: Overall it's not to bad, it's solid in the right places. Both Sills are going to need attention from the Welder before it can reach a MOT Station. Going to give it a good paint up underneath when finished. Passenger Front Wing is passed it but it's not structural and I hope to find a Replacement soon.

Mechanicals: Engine is coming up to 93,000 miles on the Clock. I am not sure when the last service was done or the Cambelt and Water Pump, so are on the List of Jobs. It's got a bad oil leaks from the Rocker Cover Gasket, Distributor and Front Crank Seal! It's got a terrible noise from the Front Passenger Wheel, it feels like it's about to fall off so going to need some attention! Rear Axle Brake Pipes are knackered and going to need to be replaced.

Interior: Looking very tired. Front Seats are split and torn, Rear Seat Missing. Carpet looks like Shag pile. Not sure on my Plans for this yet but im thinking of some Recaro Seats to start.

Nice, good find, it looks a little crusty but not too far gone! I can see you have a weber carb too, what's your plan? a road goer with subtle mods?

With that rust it looks like a good candidate for a virtual lift and box section sills ;)

That's a slightly less than average amount of rust for an SJ. Nice find! And while I can't really say "welcome to the forums" because I've seen you around for a while now, I can at least say :welcome2: to SJ ownership!

I would like to join in and say it's not that rusty but I know from plenty of experience that once you start cutting and looking you'll find plenty more to repair. but as you are an 80s ford man I'm sure that won't even phase you

Yeah, the average Escort or Sierra is what, 80% new metal, weld and filler by now? :)

I have just finished a Fiesta Mk2 Xr2. I must have replaced every Weldable Panel on the thing!
