I have to agree with the 1.6 Vit engine idea. Lots of oomph and so much lighter than a diesel.

Re: What diesel Engine?
You're going to hate me for saying this, but I still dream about a 1.2 VW TDI 3cylinder. All alloy, lighter than a G series, similar torque to a 1.6, similar HP to a 1.3, but they can be remapped to 90hp and about 150ft/lb.
You just can't get them in the UK though, you have to go to Germany and buy a Lupo 3L or an A2 3L to get them. Or buy a late model bluemotion polo here for about 5 grand, which I think you'll agree is a touch spendy.
It should do good MPG's, and I just think people would underestimate my truck *so much* if they knew it was a 1.2 diesel - but the high ratio gearing would be way out unless I fit a Hilux transfer case for a 1:1 high.
Pipe dream.

The 1.6 will do, if I can sort out my health enough to fit the flippin' thing...
