Site very quiet?

The place to socialise, and relax, if it doesn't fit into anything below it fits here, so tell us that joke, or share that story of your last off-road escapade, but remember new comers the virtual drinks are on you!

Site very quiet?

Post by sj_durham » Wed Jan 15, 2020 2:05 pm

It seems like the site is full of tumble weeds these days and most folk are posting to themselves :hahaha:

Has it always been this quiet? I used to use difflock before this place and it went the same.

I was expecting lots of parts on here, lots of regular users etc but it seems really quiet sadly

It has fits and starts.

At the moment a lot of the regulars are on with other projects (cars, trucks, boats, houses etc...) and the Zuks have taken a bit of a backseat for a few us.

All the regulars keep checking in but a lot of the parts side of it is dominated by various facebook groups or ebay.

Still a great forum for technical stuff, build ideas and general help.

Likewise, i don’t do social media. It can make sourcing stuff a bit trickier. Been at the Suzukis long enough i sort of know where to look now.

Other projects, not so clued up yet but making contacts, lol.

Yes it is quiet at the moment but like Jordi says most of the regulars are engaged in other pursuits! My LJ is off the road until the weather warms up a bit but she will be back in action and I will update on my build thread. I pop in every evening and try to help out or offer encouragement to others. A few more LJ's being bought back from the dead which is always a great thing to see!

One of the issues was the site went to a funny address for a few years and as a result we lost quite a few regulars. Since the rebuild it has been growing again slowly, and as the others have mentioned it will always have all lots of technical info for people to browse through.

Part of the problem as I see it is that most of the "regulars" here are LJ/SJ/Samurai owners. A few Vit owners, a couple of Jimny owners, but mostly SJ's. As these vehicles have become rarer and rarer, "new blood" has been low on the ground.

A couple of years ago, when searching for info on vehicles, anyone searching for anything involving "SJ" or "Samurai" would get results from this site right at the top. After the domain name thing, Google seemed to lose confidence in SCUK, and now all the results point you elsewhere. And if you have a Jimny, Google tends to point you at a site that has "jimny" right in the name, meaning that BigJimny gets a lot of the traffic that would've otherwise been sent here. And since Jimny's replaced SJ's over 20 years ago...

I'm a member of the Hilux Pickup Owners Club as well as SCUK. Of course SCUK is my main forum, because I've never owned (or wanted) a Hilux. I just have a few Hilux owning friends who're always pointing me at HPOC threads, so I joined to read those threads.

HPOC is always mad busy. Why? Because the Hilux is still selling in big numbers, so there's always new blood over there. They also have regular meets, which seems to keep the members more active, where we haven't had a meet in a long, long time. Our meets were always awesome, but unfortunately no-one has had time to organise meets, and that left everything in limbo.

I dunno Anton, done a lot of SEO in recent years and Google ranks us fairly highly.

Random search brings me this:
