headlight bulbs

whats the wattage of the standard sj headlight? ive got some 80w/100's in and its started melting my fuse box........




so id like to return to standard items if at all possible, it never came with any standard bulbs so ive no idea what they will be!

im not sure what the wattage is but i no ive got standard bulbs and mine done the same thing. i think it could b that looks spainish (mine is) ive now got the lights on their own circuit with better quality wire inline fuse switch on the dash. i done the same for a mate who had the same prob and both have been good since ive had to do the brake lights and im goin to do the indicators cos they aint workin now hope you get it sorted

The standard headlight bulbs are 45/40W

tbh i was really impressed with aepdirect, 2 days delivery, theyare now fitted and i am happy

Hi there,

I had the same problem but with my standard tea candle like bulbs and don't think it's because you are overloading it.

The problem I had was a bad connection from the pin in this plug to the fuse board.

As bottom plug to the fuse board is only an earth, and therefore it doesn't matter which hole you place the pin it, it still only goes to earth, you can carefully pull the pin out of the plug and place it in one of the spare holes, ensuring it's put back in firmly, and it will make a good connection in it's new home and stop all the worries.

Have a look, give it a go and it will solve it nice and quickly.

Also, Halford's bulb no 12 is a modern uprated version of the original bulbs without having to get them by mail order.

I went to Carquip in Keynsham (Nr Bristol) and told them my standard lights (large round bulbs)are crap and they gave me the equivalent version in halogen (55/60w). They're quite a bit better but still not awesome - Spotlights here I come...!

if your running 100watt or above, you should be using relays, as they will melt (normally the contact on the stalk switch). or something else..
