Fitting the springs on the exhaust help!!

Post by slaterfett » Tue Mar 19, 2013 2:44 pm

Hi guys.

I'm in the process of refitting my exhaust. I've got to fit the exhaust to the mainfold but there are two springs which fits around the bolt then goes in to the mainfold.

How the hell do you compress these to get them to fit????

Cheers folks!

normally the bolts are longer then the springs, and the spring compresses when you do the bolt up. could be different on an sj but sounds like you got the wrong bolts.

Mine is fitted with the original bolts. You can start them with no spring compression and wind them in until they reach the flange. At this they also have the correct compression/tension.

I guess you don't have the original bolts so I would use a socket and extension from under the vehicle.
You can put a loose nut or 2 into the socket so as to stop the bolt head from entering the socket too far.
