any advice on how to undo my 3 inch body lift

Post by Van Dam » Thu Nov 20, 2014 10:00 pm

Would like to undo the 3 inch body lift previous owners have done

not sure what this will involve other than lifting the body so as to undo and take off the bolts through what has been used to life body up

will i have to check to see if the prop shaft has been changed?
also read that the brake hoses need to be extended when this alliteration has been done?

how do i actually go about removing the lift?

any help would be great as i am a newbie to the car alterations so any help will be great and very much appreciated!

this is what has been used to put the body up some strange metal squares
will i have to change the bolts i use after due to these ones being 3 inches longer?

the gear box is also in a strange way still hanging down 3 inches below the body now so i guess no alterations that were needed here when lift way being done have been used?

Kinda answered this earlier.

Unbolt the blocks and whip them out, I'd replace the long bolts with ones 3" shorter. Hoses will be fine if you can tuck them out of the way and the tcase lever will go back to it's original position once the lift blocks are out. Having a mate to help will, err, help.

Why would you need to check the prop? Then again check all 3, why not...and you are going to really struggle doing this on your own but it is possible. Start at the back and get a jack supporting the body and take out 2 mounts...then carry on down the car. I still advise having help with this, for safety if anything else, if something slips and you trap a hand or something...well, let's not go there...

I've done this, it's not hard. All of the mechanicals stay where they are with a body lift, but the flexies under the bonnet get stretched so they may have been extended. Other than that, the mechanicals are usually left standard, so just pull the crappy lift kit out and we'll cheer you on!

Started removing the lift today and it made apart the amount of rust!
Where the body bolts onto the chaisis came off while removing the lift
Lots of grinding and welding to be done :(
Was hoping to have it ready for the road today but is apparent how much work I need to do!
