1.6 16V SPI Motor?

Post by courior » Mon Jan 26, 2015 5:52 pm

Hi all... Found in my local classifieds a 1.6 vit motor for €150 (gonna haggle for 120).. Called the guy up and he said its a 16V with Single Point Injection... Twiss seems not to know of this type of injection on a 16v, and cant find much on it via google..

So is this something that exists? If so what bits need to come with the motor to make it run? (gonna chuck it in my Gypsy).

Cheers

I think early GV1600's had a G16 16v SPI. And I thought the "standard" Vitara got SPI after about 1996???

There's never been a 16v SPI as far as I'm aware, early injected Vits were 8v Spi.

Either way it's gonna be an upgrade.

You'll want, engine, full loom, ECU, dials for the the VSS, possibly the ignition barrel and keys if it has an immobiliser built in, the fuel tank for the fuel pump (unless you find an injected samurai tank) and I would probably nab the fuel lines as well.

Cheers for the list of parts there Scottie.. As far as i can tell the car is already in the heap and its just a "crate" motor now... ill see how much stuff comes with it.. and use whats missing for bargaining ammo.

Cheers!

If he can show me it running on a stand and it sounds sweet I'll make him an offer. Prob is I need a Sammy box and these are over 100 euros. So with a new clutch and stuff its gonna come to over 350euro. Don't know if its worth it. I've never felt I needed more power off road, tires always spin before motor stalls. OK on road it would be nice to have more bhp and 5 gears but malta is so small long distance doesn't exist... Not sure if its worth it.

The advantage if the 1.6 is really the extra torque and flexibility of the motor, the power is nice to have though. If you're driving at lower speeds and up hills then its much better as you don't need to stir the gearbox and you can use third instead of revving it in second.
The Swift engine has the water pipe out the back of the head so you would need to route the pipes in a similar way to a Baleno engine conversion.
