Swift GTi engine advice

Post by ferris » Sun Apr 28, 2013 8:47 pm

I have the opportunity to buy a Swift GTi engine with wiring loom and ecu. Just wanted to know what you guys thought about the idea. I know its suppose to be a great engine, and will definitely make my SJ go faster, but it has very little torque. Could it make my SJ worse off road? I read a comment somewhere online from a guy who has fitted a few of these engines in SJ's and he said "if you have 32" tyres and low gearing, this is NOT the engine for you".

What do you think?

You could always try it and see what you think, then if you don't like it throw the 1.6 back in and ill put it in my Lwb

If it was cheap id snap it up and give it ago, but its a bit pricey and i dont want to waste money on it if its not going to be suitable for my setup. :er:

Well after many hours of research iv come to the conclusion its not worth doing with 33" tyres.

Unless i use the GTi head and my 1.6 block, but that would be a little more work and would need the ECU remapping.

Still more to think about :er: .

Well it's happening! A deal has been struck and i'm hopefully picking the engine up on tuesday :D .

Does anyone know if i will need the fuel tank and pump? or can i use a aftermarket inline pump and keep my SJ tank??

I would expect it's easiest to use an injected sammy tank/pump/filter but don't really know. Not sure which (if any) fuel lines would need upgrading :er:

Yeah thats's probably the best idea Darrel. I expect there quite hard to get hold of tho. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for one.

Just wondering - but how far can you bore/stroke a G13? I know they've got a very short deck height, so you certainly can't get a G16 crank to work in them, but more capacity is going to give more torque, right?

Or maybe you could find a G16 16v and bolt a Swift GTI head to that? That should drop right in in place of the 8v, shouldn't it?

Well iv read you can bore it out enough to fit vitara 1.6 pistons in there. Alot of swift owners do this in order to lower the compression ready for a turbo conversion.
The gti head should fit straight on the vit 16v block. Just need to find a cam belt to fit with the extra hight of the vit block. This i what im planning on doing as it should give me a little extra bhp and many more torques.
