Last oil change was a few months before Christmas, I had the sump off as the gasket was leaking.

The thing is you ideally need to strip down the bottom end and check the bearings as well, with the price you can a good second hand engine for it's the easier option, probably get an engine cheaper than a new oil pump :hahaha: Could always get one to throw in it while you check and rebuild yours. Keeps it on the road that way and you'll have a spare

The thing that concerns me is, what if I fit a new engine and then the same thing happens another 6 months down the road...
I suppose a 1.6 is appealing but then its not just a straight swap is it? And I will need to buy/rent an engine hoist.

I'm in south wales.

Thanks for the replys guys :)

That's why I said it's good to throw one in while you rebuild yours, means that it stays on the road.

You can quite easily lift an Sj engine out with 2 people, some rope and a bar, they aren't that heavy. A bit trickier getting it back in and on the gearbox though

Well I've got one that is a good runner and I know it's been looked after that might be available very shortly and I'm only 40mins the other side of the bridge if you are interested. It's still in the car so you could even hear it runnin

The oil pumps and the oil system in general is usually pretty good to be honest. The 1.6 is highly recommended, pretty easy to swap in
You dont need a hoist, just some strong friends, a length of tube and a strap...
I got mine in with me lifting, a friend lifting, and another friend steadying and wiggling it over the bonnet catch

I lifted my 1.3 in on my own, and Hilux Scottie helped me line it up with the gearbox (PITA!!!!).

Thanks guys,

I think I'm going to strip the engine and see if I can find any faults with the oil pump etc. Its not going to cost me anything to have a look and will give me something to do over the weekend,

Thanks for the offer Scottie, this could be an option but will see how I get on over the weekend first.

If anyone has any thoughts on possible failiurs I should look at while I have the sump, oil pump etc. off, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks and all the best,
Dan.
