Transmission brake swapping

Post by Jordi » Sun Jan 20, 2013 4:37 pm

Daft question, fairly sure i know the answer.

Does the transmission handbrake just unbolt off one transfer case and bolt onto another?

Getting a rocklobster next month but i dont want to take my Samurai off the road whilst it's done.

I'm thinking take transfer box out of my KJA send it to get modded. When its returned that will go into my samurai. Then i can just bolt the transmission brake onto the old Samurai box and put it back into the KJA. Everyone follow?

Unless someone has another 413 transfer box for cheap? Save me messing on n

Cheers

Looking at all the pics I have, they all show the transfer boxes to have the threads/fixings for the drum backplate. I assume you can swap any about (but I don't know for sure).

Sound!

I'll just take the KJA box out. Saves the sammi being laid up. Unless i can afford to tax and insure the KJA :D

Then i can use that as my daily drive for a bit 8-)

Few, that's a massive relief, as I've just brought a tbox brake from the parts for sale section to put on my Sami when I do the rear disc conversion! Just assumed that they were a standard fit! :D

Are they easy enough to fit or will it need a bit of head scratching? :er:

Thanks

John

you will need Chuck Norris to undo the nut that holds the drum/flange on. Apart from that its all good.

Trotter has made a tool to hold the drum while you get a breaker bar on the nut.

Let me know if you need it and I will drop it in if I am working near yours.

I had to make a bracket, that bolted to the body, to hold the hand brake cable in place on my sammy

Another question on this. Will my Samurai rear prop still be ok? Or do i need a different end to mate it to the drum?

Cheers

As long as it's an early sammy prop with the 8mm bolts it will fit

And as long as the drum isn't off a really early sj410 with skiny props
