G box to Pug 1.9TD enigne?

Post by waynesworld » Mon Dec 15, 2014 8:27 pm

Can we have a list please of RWD gear boxs that will mate up with the Pug 1.9TD engines, not using an adaptor plate, all but the LDV Pilot G box as the gearing is no good, been there and done that.

cheers all

Very Happy

I'd look into diesel vitaras. Not grand vitaras - but original vits - I'm fairly sure they had pug 1.9 NA's out of the factory, so they should mate up. Built in t-case too, should simplify your dutton build.

The commercial vitara had the xud engine so a commercial gearbox will fit and have a longer ratio but they run 4.8 diffs so could be quite long with a 3.74 or 3.94 diff.

The Vit diffs are geared to their tcase being 1:1 high. Samurai tcases are 1:1.4(ish) and 410 cases are 1:1.6(ish).

Mixing and matching parts, you may find that you can get a range that suits your needs.

If the Vit commercials have odd ratios, look into getting a Vit gearbox and a Vitara diesel bellhousing as I believe they separate - you may find you can swap the bellhousing onto another gearbox that suits you more.

Vitara gbox and bell housings separate very easily, but they are pricey as people want the bell housings.

You may have to consider making an adapter plate or modifying a bellhousing then...

Just out of interest, got a build thread or pics of the bellhousing mods?

I'm interested in how it was done, what clutch you used etc.
