Wow, thread from the past, only 8 years old!

Might be worth creating a new thread rather than resurrecting this!

To be honest I've no idea about the Nikki carb, I've never had experience, I think they are often used on be beetle engines because they are downdraft but other than that? for me, now (as was in 2008) the weber would be my preferred choice, although SU's are really good (if not better for off-roading)

The other day we found the spares guy in Malta has brand new hitachi carbs. Probably cost a ton though

I think my first replacement carb was a Hitachi side draught (SU style) but now I'm running an SU HIF44 like everyone else. There wasn't enough info on tuning what I had.

If you want to try to get the Hitatchi working, let me know and I'll dig it out for you.

Otherwise, look at Webers again, there's a Weber 32/36 kit that's designed to bolt right up. If I'd known that earlier, I might have gone that way instead of Rockwatt manifold and SU - although if I'm honest, the SU works so well, I'm actually fairly glad I went with the SU. Maybe less power, but it's sooooo goood!
