So all filled, sanded, cleaned with pre paint and primered. Sprayed it, came back 10 mins later and the paint had reacted, everywhere. Swore. Sanded again etc, started spraying and the same thing happened. So it's out with the paint stripper to take it all down to bare metal (and filler) and start from there.

Don't know much about paint, but that looks like the "shabby chic" effect so many interior decorators are after...

Used to have that trouble when I was in my "Respray everything" days with the Fiesta, whenever you tried to sand it back it was all jellyfied!

Make sure the primer isn't reacting with the metal & then make sure your topcoat isn't reactive with the primer, simple shit but I always get it wrong first time round haha

I know mate, but this rarely happens and I paint a lot of stuff! Hoping bare metal and a bloody good clean first works.

More hot door action! Finally got the thing back to bare metal, thought while I'm doing it I may as well check the underside. Oh dear. Normally I'd cut some metal out and weld in fresh but seeing I have no means to do this I will get rid of the worst parts, clamp it up and fibreglass it together (Scottie I know what you're thinking). Not ideal but at least the door will be in one piece!

You should try a poly abrasive disc for getting the paint off. It's supposed to remove it without removing any metal material and it doesn't scratch the metal up. Wear thick gloves if you do use one though as I've had one gouge out down to my tendon just by catching it. Screw fix sell them called preparation wheels, they're dear but I think their worth it.

Think I'll stick with paint stripper and my orbital sander, don't fancy the idea of cutting a tendon!
